Hi! I’m Nicky and welcome to my wildlife blog. If fauna, flora, fungi and photography are your thing, then you’re definitely in the right place. I love all that stuff and have done for over forty years – wow! forty years?! If I’m being honest, I really think it’s a bit longer than that!!
If you’re interested in….
wildlife outside the UK
and all their associated habitats then you’re on my wavelength.
So, who exactly is Nicky?
I’m not a professional conservationist but I help out local conservation and wildlife groups – they’re always after a bit of hard labour and I’m happy to provide it! I’m a ‘wildlife partner’ of the Forestry Commission and North York Moors National Park, recording and submitting sightings.
I’m not a professional photographer but I did once win a competition….I came first in the wildlife category of the FSC photography competition a couple of years ago with my photo of a beetle. I nearly didn’t know about it….hubby deleted my congratulatory email as spam!
I picked up a camera as a kid and have been hooked ever since. I initially thought that it was the photography I loved but it turned out to be field craft…
The thrill of finding a rare flower or hearing the first Chiffchaff of the year will always be special. It’s like being part of a treasure hunt that never ends.
Having said that, I feel naked going out without my camera!
I have a full time job and the usual personal commitments. I haven’t quit them to travel the world or become a full time naturalist or blogger (these things would be great but I am a realist!!). I just enjoy wildlife full stop.

So, what exactly is ‘UnforgettaBubble’?
Well, it’s a place for all those out there who are looking for inspiration and the motivation to experience unforgettable moments in a nature bubble.
Yes, that’s where I would like to be most of the time. It’s a place where I can enjoy sunrises and sunsets, mountains, meadows and marshes, seas and skies, woods and gardens without the overriding humdrum of everyday life and the controversial issues that often go hand in hand when discussing nature.
Don’t get me wrong, wildlife and our landscapes need protecting but this isn’t a blog about campaigning or highlighting issues. That is for another time, another place, another blog…I’m definitely up for that but not here.
The bubble is all about enjoying our natural world in the here and now, enjoying it for what it is without prejudice, pressure, anger or fear.
The bubble is also about art, literature, music, events…if it has a nature theme then, why not?
The bubble is pure escapism and you are welcome to experience it with me.
Where is ‘UnforgettaBubble’?
Bubble HQ is based in Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire in the north of England.
Not far from the east coast and lying at the foot of the North York Moors, Dalby is predominantly forest with areas of moor, meadow and marsh. With interesting features such abandoned quarries, small lakes and recently felled slopes, Dalby is rich in unforgettabubble moments.
Dalby Forest is my local patch and I love exploring it.

Bubble HQ also has a garden with a bird feeding station, nest boxes, small pond, messy areas, log stores and veggie patch. It is also the default base for moth trapping and identifying.

Are we just talking about Dalby?
No, UnforgettaBubble isn’t just about Dalby. It extends further than that. Wherever I may be, I will always try to find a wildlife angle. I want to explore, see amazing things and experience new landscapes both wild and urban.
If I think you may find something interesting, then I’ll share it with you.
What’s the point of UnforgettaBubble?
It’s simple. To share nature experiences in a light-hearted, enjoyable and interesting way.
I want you to join me in my escapism in Dalby and beyond. I hope you can experience the enjoyment of wildlife from your armchair or, better still, maybe I can motivate you to make your own unforgettabubble moments around the world.
